I don't know why or when it started but I have such an affinity and love for the cherry blossom flower.
Some of my earliest childhood memories are of the magnificent Victoria Plum tree that grew at the top of our garden when I was little. Once I remember standing under it during a very windy day and having the petals fall and cover me like rain.
A house on the road I lived had the most amazing pink blossom tree in their front garden and I would always admire it on my way to school. But of course, the blossom doesn’t last very long, however I think that makes them even more special.
I have quite a few cherry blossom things at home, from notebooks to jewellery, even some cherry blossom gin! Something way more permanent though is my tattoo. In 2010 I broke my ankle whilst on holiday in Cornwall. Over a couple of years, I had three operations on it which resulted in quite a long and what I thought, ugly scar. So, a few years later I designed a picture, went to see an artist who tattooed a beautiful branch of cherry blossom on my ankle to cover the scar.
A dream of mine is to one day travel to Japan to go and see the cherry blossom festival. I've heard it's so breathtakingly beautiful.
So, I've now decided to bring cherry blossom into Blooming Cakes. From now on, every order will have, maybe hidden, maybe not, a tiny cherry blossom flower on it somewhere. Hidden under a leaf, amongst buttercream grass, inside a Rose, next to a Tulip, on top of a succulent, who knows where it might be, but … I hope the recipient has fun trying to find the new Blooming Cakes ‘trademark!'
